Help Wanted
As SCARAB grows, we need help running the club. Become an integral part of the biggest adventure racing club in the Western U.S., and help us achieve our mission of becoming the premier adventure racing club in the U.S.!
If you want to volunteer for any of the following positions, or anything else you can think of, just contact us. More than one person can serve in any given position, so, for example, we can have 3 public relations people. Also, you can serve in more than one position.
Public relations. We need people to contact the media about the club and generate stories/mentions about SCARAB in national and local magazines, newspapers, online, TV, etc. Also help distribute SCARAB flyers by approaching stores, gyms, schools and anywhere else potential members would see the flyers. Also help get links to the SCARAB web site from other sites.
Workout organizer. Help organize club training workouts for members. Workouts can be in any adventure racing discipline, like mountain biking, trail running, road running, road biking, kayaking, etc. It can be as casual as a few people meeting after work for a run, or on the weekend for a mountain bike. We need lots of workout organizers.
Clinic organizer. Help organize classes and clinics for club members in any discipline that would be of interest to members. Find experts to teach the class or approach schools.
Sponsor liaison. Approach gear manufacturers, stores, outfitters and any other company/organization about offering discounts to SCARAB members, donating gear for raffles and other purposes, and sponsoring the club in any way they see fit.
South Bay liaison and San Diego liaison. There are a lot of SCARAB members in the South Bay and San Diego areas, and many of them don't want to travel to West L.A. for training events, where most of the events will be held (the majority of members live in West L.A.). We'd like to have a lot of training events in the South Bay and San Diego as well. The liaison would help plan the events and coordinate other activities in the South Bay or San Diego, like discounts at area stores and gyms, participation in local races, etc.
Female adventure racers liaison. This woman will act as a point person for the women in SCARAB. She'll help organize female-only clinics and club events, and generally act as an ambassador to help get more women involved in the sport and in the club.
Beginners liaison. This person will as act as the point person for beginning racers in SCARAB. They will help organize beginner clinics and club events. We also need someone to write a page for the web site aimed at beginning racers: how to get started, how to train, etc. A lot of this info is on various web sites out there, so you can gather good links, summarize the key points, and talk about what's available in the club and around Southern California for beginners. A lot of SCARAB members are beginners and a lot of them have been asking for this information. There will be a separate page on the web site dedicated to beginners.
Armed forces & Police liaison. There are several SCARAB members in the armed forces (many at Camp Pendleton) and in the police force, and lots of military and police personnel are interested in adventure racing. This person, who should be in the armed forces or police themselves, will spread the word about the club to the military and police/SWAT/FBI community, and act as the point person for military or police SCARAB members.
Anything else. If you have any other ideas on how you can help SCARAB, please contact us!
